Festivals
Almost since the very founding, Turners have gathered in celebration of their meaningful events. From 1851 to before the start of the Civil War 10 years later, Turners in America held 14 National Festivals . Since then, with a few disruptions, Festivals were held every 4 or 5 years. In the recent past the Festivals were held every 4 years. Lately, it has been about the same in Germany where the exception was the recent Berlin Turnfest, moved forward one year to avoid a conflict with the 2006 World Cup Soccer matches. The Festivals of both countries have so many events that it is impossible to even see them all. If you are a competitor, planning is important to enter your best events. You may have to make difficult choices between events because of conflicts in time or location. There are no late entries permitted because almost everything is computerized and all the entries must be verified.
The Festivals and the material we present here are those attended by the Long Island Turners. We welcome and will post material received about any Turner Festivals.
