At the end of our voyage, some of our group chose to continue their exploration to other places, some went home and several more stayed in Amsterdam. After docking near the main train station, we waited for the bus coming from Volendam. Everyone picked up their baggage and went to wherever they planned. A short, but heavy rainstorm punctuated the ceremony, but it all ended well and we took a bus to our hotel.
You have to be careful to take note of everything when going out for a walk in Amsterdam. Canals interrupt your walks and make detours necessary. Unless you retrace your steps carefully, or stay on the main streets, it gets very easy to become disoriented and lost. It doesn't help to have that many streets appear that similar. I found out the hard way that street numbers on one side of a canal do not necessarily correspond to those on the other side. If not for stopping to take a photo of a cute little wooden shoe boat, I may still be in Amsterdam.
