Finally, a sunny day and a nice bus ride through the countryside to a short tour of Speyer. From the parking lot, I could see some aircraft in a nearby museum. I'll save that for another trip. Our guide took us through the main street section of the old town and revealed some of the history of the area. The tour really began with the Imperial Cathedral which was started in the 11th century was certainly impressive. Impressive enough to be on UNESCO's list of World Heritage Sites. In a span of 300 years, no fewer than 8 Medieval Kings and Emperors of the Holy Roman Empire were interred here. It is the largest church built in the Romanesque style in all Europe.
For a picture postcard journey to the cathedral and more sights in Speyer, copy and paste the link below in your browsers address bar. It's a very interesting 6+ minutes. Our tour managed to visit most of the sights you will see in that video. The Historical Museum was closed, so I will have to visit it when I get to the Technic Museum with its aircraft and submarine.
