Only a little way downstream from Speyer is Mannheim, the city we just left this morning. We got a second look, but only for a few short hours so we were pretty much limited to the waterfront section. Parks, Soccer Fields, Rowing Clubs, Giant Malls and Graffiti. Graffiti, at least in Mannheim is not to be confused with the big fat letter variety so regrettably common here in the states. It covered the overpass bridge walls and I saw a guy carefully tagging his work, midday, right out in the open. Still, I'd have to say I had never seen such quality in graffiti before or since.
Across the river from our mooring was a very Quonset hut looking building. Too far away to clearly make out what it was, but it looked shiny new, intriguing and inviting. It turned out to be the Rhein Galerie, a large mall with parking on the very top floor. Some stores were still being furnished, but almost all of the building was filled with stores of all types and sizes. Everything was very new and modern with a wide range of prices and quality. Oops, time to get back on board.
